Back of the engine. Above the transmission. In the block, you'll see a plug there.

Re: Yanmar 3GM30F Zincs

The plug I'm talking about is on the side of the motor, the side the dipstick is on.

I would agree that no zinc should be necessary on a fresh water cooled engine, but there was (and still is) one in mine.

Interesting that Figure 15 of previously submitted post suggests no zinc, but also no plug for the hole. How does that work??

Look at fig 2 and fig 17

So in that previous parts book link, fig 1 (items 15, 16 and 17) show the two zincs in the block for raw water cooled 3GM30 engines and no zincs for the 3GM30F (fresh water cooled) engines.

The plugs for the block on a 3GM30F engines is shown in fig 2, item 14

Similarly fig 15 shows the single zinc (item 6 screwed into item 4) in the head for raw water engines and no zinc for the fresh water engines.

The cover plate for the head of a 3GM30F is shown in fig 17, item 19.

Well, all that is certainly convincing of what's supposed to be in there!

It's probably time for me to replace my antifreeze at spring thaw. Good time for me to check my memory of the one engine, and also the other.

Re: Yanmar 3GM30F Zincs

Since it does not hurt anything to have zincs in a fresh water system you could screw a couple in for peace of mind purposes if you can find the screw plugs.

You know, I have notice a couple of "holes" where I've wondered if a bolt fell out but there wasn't anything attached. I think you guys might have answered one of the Yanmar mysteries for me
