Re: Yanmar 3GM30F mixing elbow and exhaust manifold question

Does anyone know if there is a risk in replacing my high rise bend style elbow as pictured above with the other option which just has the slight kink?

Welcome aboard CF, Frosty.

AFAIK - It really depends on the heeled waterline compared to the height the exhaust port of your engine. If the engine is well above the worst case heeled waterline, then yes, you can use the slightly kinked one.

Question Re: Yanmar 3GM30F mixing elbow and exhaust manifold question

Thanks mate and Hi everyone!

Hmm so the engine is low in the hull and just to Port of center but I would estimate the engine exhaust outlet is about at the waterline. The exhaust system runs down to an exhaust water-lock box then from there the exhaust hose runs up above the waterline and back down and out the exhaust outlet which sits 10cm/4inch above the waterline at the rear center of the stern and is a down turned style opening to minimize water shooting back up in there.

Is the water-lock box and the high-rise after the box enough to prevent water back filling my cylinders? What about the water that is left between the mixing elbow and the water-lock after running the engine.. If heeling over, could this enter my engine or does the water siphon out of the system when the engine is shut off?
