Yamaha Outboard No More Thrust?

Sorry guys but this is not helping us, I will rephrase what I have done;

We banged on some shallow rocks that pushed the outboard up and then
did not want to turn it's prop!
I have a prop which has this safety broken and it doesn't look the same
as the one I just taken off, allthough you are going to say that you can't
see the damage!
So now,
Propeller taken off, I can turn the axe of the prop when in forward or reverse??
I have been told that some outboards have a key somewhere that might be
broken, but maybe not on this Yamaha 9.9, So,,,,,
In that case we have broken something else , because even at throttle
the prop don't turn,
So we hit that rock going forward but it is not going backwards either,,
we are getting handy with the oars, spare parts probably difficult here,
but I would still like to know what is wrong with the bugger!!

We had the same issue on a charter. I've never worked on outboards before so will butcher this explanation, but the charter company thought that maybe it was something to do with whatever transmission outboards use to engage forward from neutral, e.g. the gears couldn't mesh. Maybe check the cable from the gear shift lever and make sure its tension/track is appropriate? On a car, I'd also be looking for shavings in my oil. Of course, we just swapped the dinghy out and didn't care much about the problem after that! The joys of chartering

Is there a clamp joining the gear change rod to the lower unit? I had a small Yammi that did the same thing and the problem was the clamp had loosened. By some miracle I actually had the oem toolkit on hand and got going again in a few minutes.

OK, stick with us - you are using a second language, no? And sometimes we are misinterpreting. That's OK as long as you stay at it with us!

So now I understand that the actual prop shaft itself is freely turning when engaged in gear. Correct?

When you engage the shift lever in forward and reverse, do you feel a resistance or hear a "clunk" sound? If so, the clutch is probably engaging and there is something wrong with the prop shaft and/or gear. You will need to pull this part out and see if there is anything wrong in it. Before doing that, check to make sure there is gear oil in it and no damage to the casing. You will need to drain the gear oil to pull out the prop shaft anyway.

If you do not feel or hear the clutch engaging, then it is possible you have a broken linkage in the shift mechanisms. Look inside the cowling and follow the mechanism from the base of the shift lever to see if anything is broken or disconnected. Next, check the shift rod that extends down the leg to the prop gearbox. This is a two-piece rod that is joined in an open part of the leg (about halfway down) with a hex coupling nut. Make sure this nut is connecting both parts of the shift rod. If it is, shift it back and forth and see if this nut is moving up and down with the rod.

Sorry for not having replied earlier,
but after the last quote I just took the the engine apart,
starting with the proppeler case, the one in the same lenght as the prop!
this broke because it had not come off in 15 years, but inside it
all looked good, same as the prop itself!!
So I took off the gear box case by undoing the engagement lever
and then something fellll
Apparently the driveshaft that goes from the engine to the gearbox
has at the end a thinner ending , with a small bolt in it to hold a meshgear
and that had broken of the driveshaft!

So guys, not a ****ed prop, but a broken driveshaft
about 750$ in parts, so I will be without an outboard for a while
