Yamaha 9.9MSHD Owners: Carb Gasket

Just did a bunch of maintenance on this new-to-me '05 Yamaha 2-stroke. After cleaning the carburetor and putting everything back together, it was only later that it dawned on me there was no gasket between the carb and the head. After looking at parts diagrams and some videos of people cleaning these up it does appear that there is in fact no gasket.

That seems odd to me so just looking to get some feedback from people who have owned these - is there really no gasket for the carburetor? Thx.
