Hi All, great looking and informative site, hope to enjoy it from time to time. Right!! enough of the chit chat, lets put you all to the test.

I am just about to hand over a lump of Euro for a cruiser with an engine in that i have never encountered before, the engine seems to drive a hydrolic pump, i really have no clue on this type of system, please help!

A clue could be, the Bowman heatexchanger has BL38 pressed into the side.

What is it ? any good ?

I think its a BMC /Leyland engine and being coupled to a Bowman would make sense

You could be right, but i have had a BMC 1.5 in the past, it's certainly much bigger than that, but i did feel that the BL from the BL38 could well of been British Leyland inspired.

That BMC 1500 was a variant of an engine which was in the Austin Maxi car. They also did a 1834cc version. Next up was the 2000cc twin SU carb found in the Morris Marina, so it may be related to that or the earlier 2.2 lt in the Austin Princess.All typically crap British Leyland cars of the 60s and 70s. When my mum had one of the first VW Golfs in 1977, it was out of this world.

I should have mentioned, it is a 4 cylinder Diesel engine.

I give.....whats the engine placard or engine block serial numbers say it is?

Unfortunetly the guy selling it is doing so because the boat belonged to his late father, he wasnt too sure on the boat and he was under the impression, and told me, it was a Perkins, i took him for his word and started to research that, i didnt check any plates, i was then told it wasn't a perkins, i need to find this info before Wednesday when i return to pay for the boat, all i have is the pictures.

Just to update this thread. Bowman actualy come good, the BL38 heatexchanger was fitted to a British Leyland 3.8D.
