What does brown water mean?
Motored next to another boat this week whose diesel was obviously under duress.
Black/brown smoke and brown water coming out of the raw water exhaust.
What's the prognosis?

Re: What does brown water mean?
Is the diesel raw water cooled?
Could be really rusty cooling water.

Could be a very cunning way to empty the holding tank...

Re: What does brown water mean?
Was it leaving an oily sheen on the water? Brown is usually indicative of either rust or crankcase oil but other than that there are not that many clues to go on here.

A fowled prop -- is that when you get a chicken stuck in it?

Foul fowl is no joke, and stinky to boot!

Re: What does brown water mean?
So, if water runs off my foulies like water off a ducks back, are they foulies or fowlies?

Re: What does brown water mean?
Before replacing the entire exhaust system on my boat, it pumped out brown/ dark orange water. It was rusty water from all the cast iron parts that were nearly corroded away!!

RED TIDE. The water looks like brownish/red tomato soup.

Re: What does brown water mean?
I have been in areas where the water is brown from decaying vegetation in the water. If the water going into the cooling system is brown, the water coming out will be brown.

Boy I got tarred and feathered on that one. I should know not to post late at night or early in the morning. I would call fowl, but alas I already did..
