Wet exhaust hose

I have a 1.5 feet hose from the engine exhaust manifold to the elbow. However the hose needs to make a tight curve to fit properly. I bought a new hose with wire reinforcement in it, cut it to size and spent three hours upside down in the engine bay, wrestling the thing with no results. I took a heat gun to it and that did not really do much either. I ended up forcing it quite a bit and now there is a kink that I cannot get rid of. The kink maybe constricts the cross sectional area by 10%. My questions:

- any tips on getting wet exhaust hose to bend properly?
- should I toss the kinked one and get a new hose?
- how are the $$$$ silicone wet exhaust hoses?

Try a 90 degree SS elbow rather than trying to force the hose into a shape it isn't happy with... good Luck... Phil

There is a whole line of fiberglass elbows, 45 & 90 deg just for that kind of thing. Centek is the brand name.

The hose has a minimum bend radius based on the ID, once you exceed the bend radius the hose life will shorten the more it's exceeded. Go with something prefab as mentioned
Nothing should be 3 hours of sweat and upside down
Geeez that could take several cold ones to replenish fluids

I had to put a dog leg in my system to get around the shift lever. So I went with rubber elbows.

What happened to the original one and how was it fit?

Benne 30 is a pretty common boat...

I am guessing the answer is - Beneteau makes one and it costs $3,000?

Thank you all for your replies. The original one was very similar to the trident wire reinforced I got to replace it. The original cracked open and I had a water and smoke surprise in the quarter berth one day. I will look into the prefab elbows. Thank you all for the great ideas and photos

+1, Guy... now that you mention it, I bought a couple of Fiblerglass mufflers from Fisheries Supplies in Seattle about 20 years ago and recall they had a large selection of various elbows available at the time... good suggestion! Phil

Trident makes semi-corrugated exhaust hose I found quite bendy.



Generally, I try to avoid extra bits and pieces where possible and to make as straight a run as I can.
