Does anybody have a trick on removing the fuel injectors? Is there a special thin walled socket to purchase? The exhaust manifold is in the way. I dont really want to remove the exhaust mani.

Thanks

Huhh?? on a W46?? On mine the injectors are on the other side of the rocker cover--well clear of the exhaust manifold.

Re: Westerbeke w46 fuel injector

Yeah, mine are on the inlet side, but still, difficult to get to. I am able to (just) get a stillson wrench to grip. The first challenge is to remove the injector leak-off pipe without ruining it, ; take a large pin punch and whack the side of the hexagon nut of the leakoff pipe a good blow from the top. Then gently and carefully loosen the hold-down nut. I subsequently modified mine to have fuel-line hose between each injector so as to have some flexibility. I have been unable to ascertain what the correct injector seal is. - I seem to have an aluminium heat washer at the injector tip, but no copper washer for a seal. There is a tapered seat in the cylinder head without a washer that seems to be the only sealing surface. The engine seems to run fine like that. Holding thumbs!

I made a tool for mine out of one of the plumber thin wall sockets, the type that come on a large safety pin type of clip. Split the apexes of the hex, squeezed in to size, and brazed the splits . Thoroughly clean the seat area before removing the injector.

I will look at my parts book, and give you the part numbers for the washers.

Not sure what the access is like to your engine, but on my O'day 40 it is no biggie to remove the inlet manifold; 2 bolts for the outer housing and 4 for the actual manifold. Since there is no air filter, the gaskets don't matter and if damaged, can be discarded.
