Westerbeke L-25 parts

Does anybody know where I can get a chain case cover for a westerbeke L-25? I am also looking for a new fresh water pump.

If your Westerbeke engine was based on a Kubota engine (I assume it was) you can get many parts from your local kubota tractor dealer or even your local auto parts store for much less money than most marine suppliers.

Westerbeke branded engines are not Kubota based. Universal branded engines are.

Good luck getting a heat exchanger or impeller at the tractor store.

Yes you can get engine hard parts at a Kubota tractor store, BUT these arn't the parts that fail. You will end up back at a marine dealer after they laugh you out of the tractor store.

Sorry about that Never Monday, I understood Bombay77 to say that he was looking for a chain case cover and a fresh water pump .... I didn't know anyone was searching for a heat exchanger or an impeller. I don't know what engine the Westerbeke L-25 is based on (like I said I assume it is based on a Kubota). I have an engine and a gen-set, both based on a Kubota engine, and believe me, I have never been laughed out of a kubota dealer. What ever engine the Westerbeke L-25 engine is based on (Westerbeke didn't make it!) there are engine parts out there a lot less expensive than a Westerbeke dealer. I'm guessing that the manufacturer of the base engine is the type of information Bombay77 was searching for.

In many cases of internet forums it's better to give no information than wrong information.

The L25 was based on a Ford tractor diesel. Ford has long sold off that division and the parts that went with it. Parts for the L25 are scarce at best.

Never Monday, I didn't know Ford ever built a small deisel engine. Many (if not all) of the small Ford tractors were built by Shibaura .... Who, as you know, is still very much in business.

that my be true in the later days of Ford. But the L25 is from the 70's when Ford still built engines here.

Re: Westerbeke L-25 parts

I have a 1979 westerbeke L 25 with ford emblems molded into the block so it must be made by ford. I understand that it was made in the UK also.

I have been trying to find a front oil seal for the timing chain cover and it's like pulling hen's teeth. The local westy dealer has been dropping the ball trying to get me one so I think It's time to try ford tractor.

Does anyone have a replacement seal by any chance??

Try a bearing supply house, take your old seal or its dimensions. Most bearing dealers also carry or can order about any type of lip seal.
