Re: Westerbeke Glow Plugs 24353

Back to glow plugs. I tested all four, hooking up to battery and seeing if they warm up and glow, two did, two didn't even get warm. Thought I had found them at West Marine, a Sierra 23-1000, but after getting them ($35 each) they didn't fit. I have ordered 4 from England and the cost for 4 was only $84 US including shipping. Ordered Durite 0-130-12. The picture looks like mine so hope they will fit and get me starting faster. Will update after successful install and start.

Not to rain on your parade, but I think you may find your engine not to be metric...
Did you check the thread on your current glowplugs- perhaps using a regular nut?

Let us know if it works, I would like to know a cheap source.

John, the old original glow plug, the Champion AG32 is a very fine thread. The Sierra 23-1000 was a course thread, maybe a 3/8" course US. the picture in the Tool Box site shows fine thread and it looks exactly like my AG32. Will let you know when they arrive. On another thread I asked about the thermostat hose, did you ever replace yours?

I replaced every bit of hose aboard including all the engine hoses. I used hardwall exhaust hose with wire embedded in it, from Sierra, I think, minimal issues with kinking. It takes the sharp bend fairly well.

Re: Westerbeke Glow Plugs 24353

Installed new glow plugs yesterday and it starts great now. I got Durite 0-130-12 glow plugs for about $17 each, like $85 for 4 including shipping from England at a place called the toolboxshop.com I think. Very reasonable prices, fast shipping, nice plugs.
We took our Glander out yesterday to test the Westerbeke after replacing the impeller, hoses, and glow plugs. Ran great, didn't overheat, started fast. I am happy.
