That's great new's. And I particularly like the price. Hopefully you can find all the parts you need at the same place. Did you tell them it was for a Westerbeke? I think a lot of these places are wise to the fact that Westerbeke has an exclusive arrangement with Mitsubishi WRT parts. I think a lot of them also ignore it, especially for such an old engine.

I emphasised it was a Mitsu... we talked about the part in the context of Mitsu. However, it says Westerbeke on my invoice.

Somewhat related, the Fram oil filter shown in their catalog as the one for the W46 has a convex mounting plate where as the OEM part is concave. The Fram will not seal against leakage. This is from personal experience.

You might try a Wix, although I don't know if there is a convex/concave problem with the Wix. That's my plan anyway as soon as I use up the supply of genuine Wetterbeek filters that were on board when I bought the boat. I think the Wix filters are generally regarded as very good. Fram, not so much. I once had a new Fram filter filter fail and starve my engine of oil. This was on a '78 Ford Bronco. Luckily I caught it before any damage was done. Those old 351M's were pretty bullet proof anyway.

I find it unfathomable that a contract can exist between a manufacturer (mitsubishi) and a brand name (westerbeke) which makes that brand name the exclusive worldwide distributor for parts, especially when that brand name does not make parts available at a price gouging premium for their older engines and when those parts are available for the base engine. This must qualify as anti-competitive, at least here in the US.

I'm currently using a Wix oil filter on my W-46. It seats just fine. Part number is Wix 51324. Much less $ than the Westerbeke.

I'm thinking about adding an aftermarket remote oil filter; I found the non-westerbeke are in the $30's and $40's. I just do not know which one to order... there are so many and the few I have found do not look like they have adapter o-ring sizes that match the require ring size on the engine.

I bought an Amsoil dual remote filter. Has one standard filter and a second, ultrafine bypass filter. 10% of the oil goes through the ultrafine filter so the theory is much smaller particulate is removed leaving much cleaner oil.

Have not yet installed it so can't comment on how it works but looks well made.

As far as Westerbeke and the price gouging on parts, if I ever have to repower I can guarantee Westerbeke will NOT be on my list of options.

It is NOT the right seal. The seal we need is BH2417E.

That sucks.

That number does not look like the Mitsubishi number in the parts manual. Is that a *new* Mitsubishi number, or is it some third party manufacturer's number for that seal?
