The W46 is a 127 ci Mitsubishi. Full manuals are online at W/beke site under older engines. I get great service from Marine Gear in Ft L/dale. iirc, 2nd Ave SE. Behind Lesters Diner.

Its not the westerbeke manuals that are hard to find. Its the mitsubishi manuals and catalogs, so I can get the mitsubishi part numbers. Westerbeke changes all the mitsubishi part numbers to westerbeke numbers.

I had that problem trying to find parts for my W58 but after a good bit of time with google using the Westerbeke part number I eventually managed to find a couple of places that sold the Perkins part cross referenced to the Westerbeke number.

Strange as it may seem I think an eBay auction was where I first found the information.

...and then multiplies their cost x 10 to resell. They have quite a captured audience. I have the Mitsubishi service manual for the 4dq5, but not the (Mitsubishi) parts manual. The service manual really doesn't tell you anymore than the Westerbeke manual. The parts manual would be really useful though. One thing I did find out: A Mitsubishi shop told me that some parts will depend on your engine's serial number. So they made running changes to the engines, along with changes to the parts. It does make things a bit more complicated.

I'd be interested in the parts manual as well if you have it in e-form.

Well just got some really horrible news... the original OEM part was deprecated and replaced with a different part number which is no longer produced. So, the OEM line is dead. This means that there are NO rear oil seals available for the engine anymore unless someone has one laying around gathering dust in the back of a warehouse.

I sent you a PM. I rebuilt mine 3 years ago. I used the Mitsubishi distributor here in Sacramento and was able to obtain all the parts I needed. Do not tell the Mits dealer that it is a Westerbeke you have. Apparently Westerbeke has an exclusive on the 4DQ5 for parts.
If you remove the seal and take it to Motion industries, they can match it up. It's just a metric lip seal.

Was wondering if one could buy seals by spec like bearings. Good to know that this is an option.

I bought new bearings for my old Simpson Lawrence Windlass from Motion Industries. Cost about 25% of what they cost from S-L Spares in Scotland, not to mention the time and trans-Atlantic shipping.

Aww man... if it's just a lip seal, there's a ton of sources... bearings and seals are the biggest top secret classified intelligence by various mfg's... I HATE IT... I had to buy a seal kit for my $3k-JP3 rudder bearing cause I couldn't source the parts dimensionally in the water... = $350 for 4 pc of rubber... Before I installed, I bought back up replacements.... $27 @ McMaster

I'm pretty sure that this engine was used in some BobCat skid loaders and backhoes.

The issue with this one particular seal is that it is steel somehow bonded to the rubber part.

Good news... so far... I was able to find a diesel tractor place in Pennsylvania that did a lot of leg work for me and was able to contact mitsu directly through an alternative source. Turns out that they DO make the part and its yet again assigned another part number. Hopefully, it fits. Oh... and its $108 compared to $485 for the westerbeke part!

Yup...the Mitsubishi 4DQ5 was used in Forklifts as well. Mitsubishi knows (or should) that Westerbeke has an exclusive on parts if you have a W46. So when calling a Mitsubishi engineparts didtributor, you have to tell them it's a 4DQ5 and not a W46. The distributor figure it out at the end of my rebuild when I asked for a thermostat housing unique (apparently) to the W46. Parts through W46 for a total rebuild was almost the price of a new engine. Through a mitsubishi dealer, around $1500.
