Westerbeke 4 107 rebuild

I am considering my westerbeke 4 107 rebuilt. What parts should I expect to be replaced. Bearings, rings re seat valves etc?

It really depends on what it looks like once you're inside.
Mine was smoking badly so I know the valve seat had been done a couple to many times. I had new seats put in along with a head rebuild by Hill Head in Seattle, WA.
I also replaced the sleeves, pistons, rings, all bearing. All from Stewart Marine, Seattle, WA. I also had the injector pump rebuilt by Northland Diesel, Seattle, WA. It was a little pricey for the pump but I know I can trust it. All the seals and things were from Stewart Marine. Total cost just under $3K. I basically have a new engine. Don't forget the oil seal packing at the back end.
While it's out I also rebuilt the transmission. It didn't need plates so it was inexpnsive.

Thanks! The prices I'm getting are 8-10 k for all labor and parts. Seems a little much compared to 3k. How many hours do you think excluding removal and install?

Couldn't really tell you the hours because I did all the work myself. All in all maybe 2 week, but just guessing. I tore the engine down 2 years before I even had the boat. Once I got going back together a week or so, but I didnt' work it constant.
If you go back through my blog there are pictures of the engine rebuild.

Re: Westerbeke 4 107 rebuild

I believe the kit with pistons, bearings and sleeves is only about $600 or so, replace it all. (Foley Diesel)The head rebuild should cost maybe $500-600. Follow Chasing Summer's advice. The Injector seals are probably getting bad so that should be rebuilt too if you want a first class job. if it were me I would find a small engine shop and ask what to rebuild the short block if you have the parts. They can determine the condition of the crankshaft. Ask the hot rod guys who does that kind of work. Often it's some small shop guy with a bunch of machinery who really knows his stuff!

My head rebuild at was $450 plus shipping. This included grind out and press in and lap new seat, and new valves. I sent them new springs. Remove all the bolts and studs from the head before you send it anywhere. Some times they send them back without the stuff you left on the head.
