Westerbeke 4-107

Can anyone tell me anything about the 4-107. The Westerbeke site does not seem to have any info and they have not replied to my email request. Does anyone know where I could get information on the engine - specs, manual, maintenance/repair info?
Thanks, Joe

I had a W 4-107 in previous boat.

Not too impressed, would be careful with these engines.

wasn't the 4-107 made out of a perkins engine?

Yeah, "Poor Man's Perkins"

My CSY buddies with Westerbeke engines seems to have nothing but problems.

I sure had on previous boat..Low hour engine kept eating impellers, then head gaskets....Finally the engine was given away and the guy that bought my boat sailed for 5 years with no engine.
Hat off to him.

I put a westerbeke 90A four in our boat in 2002. It now has about 240 hurs on it and so far so good. I am very hapy with the engine. It is built out of a Mazda engine. Also when I wad a question for westerbeke I emailed them and had a reply the next day.

Well, the new Westerbekes may be a diifferent animal, dunno.

The old 4-107 that I owned however was not impressive in any way.

Current boat has a Perkins 4-108 that is 26 years old and it purrs like a kitten.

Heard other 4-108 owners say they are bullet proof with plenty parts all over the planet.

A guy I know had one in his CSY 37 and had it overhauled at 15,000 hours, not 'cause there was anyting wrong with the engine, the high hours just made him nervous..

I just read in (I think) sail about a 40' Valiant that went through a total refit and they secided to rebuild the Westerbeke at 15000 because they thought it was time. So there must be some good Westerbeks out there. The reason that I bought a Westerbeke was I got it wholesail. The Perkins 4-236 that was in the boat had been underwater for months and was rusted solid. I did sell the perkins a few months ago and the buyer was very happy to get it. The 4-236 seems to be known as a real workhorse.

Thanks for all the input. I checked the Westerbeke site again that you posted Gord but they only footnote the 4-107 as the W40 but it doesn't seem to actually be the same engine at all.

So, I guess I'm still hoping someone might know any of the specs on the 4-107 as well as where I might be able to get any kind of a manual.

I wish I could repower right now but just no financially able yet.

Info found

I don't know if Westerbeke changed their site or if I missed something. Can't find the footnote thing at all anymore but clicking on the W40 brings up their old brochure describing it as the old 4-107. It does have some pretty good information if anyone is interested:

fuel filters

The boat we just bought has an old 4-107. I'm trying to find part numbers for the fuel filters; can anyone point me in a good direction?
