WARNING Do Not Buy Nanni Diesel in USA!

!WARNING! Do Not Buy Nanni Diesel in USA!
There is no, zero, parts availability in the USA for Nanni. If you know otherwise, please inform us b/c I've searched high and low, but only find an importer in FL that has quoted $102 for an air filter and $971.48 for a starter motor, both shipped from France.

I used the Kubota block cross reference (available in another CF thread) to find the Kubota starter p/n. I bought that starter from this discount place, which is great for you other Kubota Block guys (another CF recommendation) Discount Starter & Alternator

BUT the Kubota Starter DOES NOT FIT Nanni. They must have changed the mounting plate.. I guess. $971.48 for a starter that's almost identical to the $83 one that doesn't quite fit.... grrrrr Oh, and Nanni painted the starter so I can't get any identifying marks of it.

Anyway to find a starter by physical dimensions?

Thanks
Zach

Yeah, don't you love how they paint everything blue?

What doesn't fit for the starter? I doubt Nanni made a custom bellhousing.
What series Kubota is it? (V1505, etc)

Can you put the new internals in your old starter case... etc?

Re: WARNING Do Not Buy Nanni Diesel in USA!

I'd first take the starter into an automotive electrical shop that rebuilds starter and alternators.
I'd bet they can overhaul it and if not, they may well know what else it fits, its very rear for items like starters to be a one engine only fit.

Exactly what I did when I had starter problems with my Westerbeke W58 (before I figured out it is a Perkins 4.154 painted red). They wanted similar money for a new starter but the local auto starter/alternator shop identified the starter and a replacement but was able to rebuild mine for a fraction

I'm sure it could be rebuilt, but the old starter still works... I was looking to buy it as an on-board spare in prep for a long distance voyage.

Yeah, it's a V1505D (not sure what the D means??) The bolt holes were 5mm to close together and the large bore for the motor/gear was slightly larger than the old Nanni starter. So it didn't even fit in place.

There are 2 basic shapes of starter on the V1505, one with the gear in-line with the motor shaft and one offset. Mine is in-line. I checked the following V1505 starters:
Equipment model F3680 -> Kubota starter 16611-63010 Not it, offset style
Equipment model KX71(-3 is=) starter 19269-63010 Not it, offset style
Equipment model KX91 starter 16611-63010 or RC411-53200 Not it, offset style
Equipment model B2910 starter 6C070-59210.Bought it Doesn't Fit.
Equipment model B3030 6C070-59210 or 6C070-59214 Former No. is Not it… same as above... Assume later is similar part.

Working from the link in post #2, there's a dealer list: http://www.delblanc.com/fr/wp-conten...rs-Mondial.pdf, a couple of years out of date but might be helpful.

Sorry to hear you're having problems over there.

Here in the UK I use an excellent company based in Norwich;
Peachment | Total Marine Solutions

I realise it might be way more expensive to buy from the UK but they are very knowledgeable and helpful and would probably give you advice if you phoned or emailed.

Re: WARNING Do Not Buy Nanni Diesel in USA!

That's too bad... because in my experience Kubota is probably the best diesel engine in the world. It runs so smoothly that you have to put your hand on it to see if it's running.... These marinizing companies are ...... well... are not a mariner's best friend. They take advantage of a great engine maker then play games... I guess they must have a business model that they feels needs this... Why doesn't Kubota, Izuzu, etc. just make their own marinized versions...?

I have a 70 HP Westerbeke starter in the shop for over a month now because of parts.... I found out recently that the Westerbeke 58 substitutes nicely for a Westerbeke 70 Hp starter. They both have reverse rotation.

Because they are in the business of making tractor engines, a far larger market. All the "marinizing" is is adding a water pump">raw water pump, exhaust manifold and a heat exchanger, the first two being built into the engine, the HX is simply a separate strap on unit.

All of us with "marinized" engines have long ago figured out the shorthand to find the appropriate tractor replacement/equivalent parts. That information is easily found on the internet.

All good owners associations have this information on their websites, and many boating forums also have this info for boats/engines that don't have active owners associations.

While BETA uses a "marinized" Kubota block and gleefully provides the Kubota block/appurtenances model numbers, it only takes less than 15 minutes to find this information out on the internet if you look for it.

If you ask, someone invariably will do your research and homework for you.

Ain't so hard, really.

I guess that is so... but my question is.... why not make their own marinizing division if it's profitable to companies like Westerbeke, Nanni, BETA, etc.? Why make everyone scrounge for parts elsewhere or after market companies? Should be a good sideline business for a good engine manufacturer... Like you said it's 3 add-ons to marinize the engine. A Subsidiary company or Department with their own P/L could do this... jus' hate the idea of looking around the Red or Blue to get around the ripoff prices offered by the marinating company...
