VolvoPenta 2001b single cylinder replacement

Long sad story behind the Volvo Penta engine on my new boat WinDancer. She is still at the mechanic's after two months. They had it all put together nicely and began testing in the boat. Only to discover the previous owner (out of desperate stupidity I guess) put gasoline into the diesel fuel. Not sure why.

At this point I am starting to think about a replacement engine.
The current configuration is shaft drive - not saildrive.

Money isn't really a concern for me, am more interested in a quality replacement motor. The boat is a Beneteau 265 and is not configured for raw water heat exchanger - but instead direct water cooling.

thoughts anyone? I see my diesel mechanic Monday relative to this recent twist where we will estimate the scope of damage caused by the gasoline.

thanks,
Frank.

Re: VolvoPenta 2001b single cylinder replacement

Made progress today answering my own question. The 2001b is listed at 246 lbs. The similar engine for Yanmar, 1GM10 is discontinued. The logical choice I think is a Yanmar 2YM15 at 227 lbs. I will need to measure for fit.

These puppies come with a gearbox choice it seems. They also rely on fresh water cooling. If I go this way, I'll need to rig a heat exchanger and raw water pump of some sort.

Frank.

Check out Vetus. Where we are they are about 75% of VP price.

I have seen Nanni priced very well in another spot. They seemed even cheaper than Vetus.

on an older indirect injected diesel, the damage is minimal, depends how long it ran. and how rich the gasoline was.
could be in for a pump, maybe an injector rebuild, maybe a melted piston, but i doubt it.
what is it doing/ not doing?

They come complete with fresh water heat exchangers and raw water pumps. I don't think you have a concern there.
