Volvo Perkins Equivalent

Everyone says that the Volvo d2-55 is really a Perkins model painted green, and that one can use the equivalent Perkins parts on them in most cases. However, I have not been able to identify which Perkins model it is. Anyone know the answer to this?

Depending on the vintage of your engine it is either a 404C-22 or a 404D-22.

The C version had a flat cover on the front of the timing case above the sea water pump and the D version cover is somewhat rounded. Google the product sheets for the two engines and you can see the difference.
