Volvo penta md17c reverse gear msb

Good morning,
I have a volvo MD17c with an MSB reverse gear. The gear has stopped engaging in forward. The gear has been removed and the shop is telling me the cone shaped liner in the gear has gone bad and is no longer available. Ultimately this is starting to look extremely expensive as the gear cannot be rebuilt. Has anyone run into this with good result? What did you find and do to for a solution. Any help would be so appreciated.

The gear can be rebuilt. Take it to a good brake shop and they can glue a lining in and machine to suit. I have had it done years ago.
