Volvo Penta 2003 Impeller

Hi,
I have a Volvo Penta 2003 in my C&C 35 MK II. The original engine was an Atomic 4. On my last trip the impeller would no longer turn in the water pump. The impeller was fine. Back at the dock I took off the water pump and found that the plastic gear in the back of the water pump had broken to the point where it would no longer turn the impeller shaft.
I am ordering new parts and will re-assemble and install the water pump but I am not sure that the impeller installed by a Volvo Dealer when he installed the engine is the correct one.
It seems to me that it is way to hard to turn.
The impeller that I have been using is 3862281 and it is a kit. I have been surfing and have found an impeller for MD 2003 and the number is: kit part number 3586496
Would the MD 2003 be the same as the 2003? I find Volvo Penta naming conventions rather confusing.

What impeller kit do others use for this engine?
Thank you for any help and feedback.
Cheers,
Peter

Do you have a 2003 or an MD2030? They are quite different engines. My parts catalog says the 2003 water pump is 840557, impellor 875583 which replaces 3586496. You can find parts listings and buy at places like Marine Parts Express Volvo Penta, Mercruiser and more - Marine Parts Express - engines, outdrives, propellers . No idea what 3862281 fits; doesn't appear for either engine but is a Volvo impellor number.

Thank you for the prompt reply - the engine is a 2003.
The impeller I have was installed by Volvo Dealer. As best I could make out it was the 3862281 and it fits but I don't think it is the right one. Needs to much force to turn.
Will explore your impeller number and see what it looks like.
Cheers,
Peter

If you go to http://www.marinepartsexpress.com:80...el=four&ID=289 there is a list of common part numbers for the 2003, but I don't see any pictures. I actually have a 2003t, which uses a different pump and impellor, so can't verify independently. Sounds like your dealer installed the wrong impellor. Good luck; Ed.

Yes - I checked it out and a few others and the latest part # for the 2003 is Impeller Kit 3586496. It apparently replaces the one you mentioned and I don't remember the number but I have noted it and will keep both numbers for future reference.
Thanks a lot!
Cheers,
Peter
