volvo penta 2002 leaking pump

to the ones who know :
I have a Volvo penta 2002 engine with a closed loop circulating system(recirculating pump, heat exchanger, expansion tank)that has being problematic lately ,now the recirculating pump is leaking and the replacement is over $1000 (no way Jose for a 24 year old engine )I was thinking alternatives such us :replaced with electrical Johnson pump or convert back to raw water cooling (less is more).
Please share your thoughts and if someone have the diagram for raw water plumbing will be great.
Thanks in advanced the knowledge here has always being better than any local mechanics.

Re: volvo penta 2002 leaking pump

Go back to raw water cooling. Just make sure you replace the thermostat with a 140 deg. Might get another 24 years.
