Volvo MD2030 Glow Plugs

OK so I have a hard to start issue in the cold. I have 12.75 volts to the glow plug bar. How do I check the operation of each glow plug? I have pulled the bar off and tried to check the resistance across each plug. I placed the multi meter on the center conection (threaded for the power bar) and then grounded out to the block and got nothing. I then tried grounding out to the outer ring of the glow plug. This time I got nothing on either of the outer 2 plugs and a varying number on the centre one.

Am I doing this correctly?[

an amp gauge is the best bet. Figure 10A per glow plug.

I would have expected a bigger voltage drop.

So 10A at 12.75V = 1.275Ohms, a small reading for most meter.
Perkins M30 glow plug are rated at 10.5V, 6.9A, 1.6 +- 0.16 Ohms. A 12V test lamp can also be used.

Thanks guys. I'm still looking for clarification on how to test the plugs to make sure they need to be repalced.
