Volvo D1-30 Fuel Filter
I have a Volvo Penta D1-30 engine and cannot find the correct replacement fuel filter. The part # is 861477. However, the replacement Volvo part filter, 861477, is approximately 1 1/2” longer and will not fit the engine. The original filter on the engine, 861477 is only 2” long. What gives? Volvo themselves have been no help and keep sending me the wrong part. Seems like Volvo changed the filter length on the replacement part, and used the same number. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I was told that this engine is a Perkins. If anyone has the Perkins #, I can track down the filter.
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

take the old filter to an auto spares dealer and generally they will be able to match it,normally at 1/3 of the price of a volvo original.

D.D.
I agree with everything you said. I had the same problem.
I put on the new longer filter and it works and I get a better filter for that same money. Rock & Roll like Billy Joel

Re: Volvo D1-30 Fuel Filter
Spoke to a Volvo dealer today and was told that the fuel filter is an ELEMENT not a canister replacement. He said that Volvo changed the filter arrangement mid-stream. Can anyone confirm this? Auto parts stores do not have ANY of the approximate 15 cross reference filters.

I looked up generically a D1-30 and the part # you listed earlier is the only one I see.

Re: Volvo D1-30 Fuel Filter
Dale I feel your pain. I had asimilar problem a month ago. The customer insisted on genuine Volvo filter so off to the dealer I go. The filter they gave me was about 1" larger in dia. but had the same Pt # printed on it by Volvo, there was not enough space for the larger filter, so it would not fit. Volvo have been at this long enough now it is time they got their sh.. together.

Re: Volvo D1-30 Fuel Filter
there are 2 part number with the description "fuel filter"
one is 3584125
this is actually the housing the filter mounts to. It incorporates the hand pump.
then 861477 is listed as "fuel filter" but shows as the filter cartridge in the drawing.
these number repeat for all D1's and D2's, 13 to 40hp

Re: Volvo D1-30 Fuel Filter
Thank you for your time and help. I am calling Volvo with your numbers, explain my problem, and hopefully get some answers. I went to a dealer today, and they showed me a schmetatic of an updated bracket change for these engines. They also are calling Volvo tomorrow and check out the updated brackets. I'll let you know how all this plays out. I really appreciate your help....
