Volvo Alternator

I have a volvo 2003.I want to upgrade the alternator. It has a 50amp Paris Rhone alternator with a 2inch foot.3/8 v belts from an auto store seem to work ok.I have been looking ,on line,at Delco 10SI series. They have a 2inch foot.Does anyone know if they would fit?
What brands of alternators have owners put on their small volvo diesels?
Balmar alternators have been mounted on scores of different engines.Just how much trouble could I get trying to put a Delco on my engine? There is no local place where I could compare the alternators.

Re: volvo alternator

I have an Ample 120amp on mine. I dial it down to 80amps max.

Re: volvo alternator

Paul, what v belt do you use?Do you know if it is ok to use 3/8 belts on that engine?
I take it,that if you go over 80 amps it wrecks the belt?

Re: volvo alternator

I use the same 3/8 belt width that was on my original 50amp alternator, which by the way only delivered 35amps. I limit the output to 80amps for 2 reasons: it keeps the alt cool and therefor should last a long time, and I don't want to spend the money to go to dual belts. The 2003's were only 28hp when they were new, probably a little tired now for giant alt.
