Vented Tranny Dipstick Ejects Oil - Yanmar 2GM20F

Oil is coming out of the hole in the orange plastic top of what appears to be a vented transmission dipstick when the transmission is engaged. Have I filled it with too much oil?

Also, the oil level on dipstick is virtually impossible to discern with clean 30W in transmission. Any hints on how to read it accurately?

It is a 2GM20F engine with a KM3V V-drive. Thanks. Roger

touch the dipstic with a bit of tissue or paper, will show how far up the clean oil is,sounds like it is over filled as no connection to engine sump, so no pressure from the crankcase to cause back pressure, won't cause any damage apart from oily bilges....

I sure hope you didn't put oil in the transmission. It needs the red stuff not the brown stuff. Coming back up the dipstick tube means too much added most of the time with all the fluids most of the time. That would be the sort of good news. Real oil in the transmission would take a serious engineering problem. It's a - can't get there from any place problem.

Bob, thanks. Am I misreading the tranny lube oil specs? I have plain old 30 weight non detergent oil in it.

for that gearbox the stats are 10w-30 this is normal engine oil,not hydrhalic oil,but stats are for .30 of a liter, thats half a pint in your money........,normal sae 30 should be fine, but not the red stuff!!!!!!

+1 on motor oil NOT ATF!
Overfill is the likely cause, but on some (NOT yours) transmissions with heat exchangers, a raw water leak will push oil out the top as well

Km3v uses engine oil , try running a chalk strip down the dipstick.
