Velvet Drive

My 1984 CS36T sailboat is powered by a Westerbeke 33 diesel coupled to a Borg Warner Velvet Drive transmission series 1000, assembly 10-23-001, 1:1 gear ratio. Both are original equipment with 5200 hours of heavy use.
I am currently aboard my boat in Rio Dulce, Guatemala. The transmission will not engage and I am told it needs major overhaul or replacement. I have been unable to locate rebuild kits, used parts, or a used transmission.
Can anybody out there point to a likely source for used parts for this trannie?

Have you tried Carlos the welder? he rebuilding them in the past and also has a test rig

Definitely talk to Carlos. He worked on my transmission a few weeks ago and sourced parts in the city.

You might Ray’s Marine in Brampton Ont. Ray Singh was the production manager at CS when they built your boat. He knows where part is the the CS36 with its unique set up

You may wish to contact Anthony Keats Marine in Whitley Ontario they are the Westerbeke dealer as well as Walters V Drive. They sold all the engine parts to CS. They have parts in stock for your boat.
