Unusual time format on eng hour meter
The engine hour meter on my boat has four digits, a comma and two digits = 1234,56.
Any one know how many hours that is?
Its a 1986 Taiwanese built boat with a Spanish built perkins.
Thanks,
Mike
Yes, I can run it and track it to find out too.

Pretty sure that is twelve hundred hours, easy way to tell is to hook it to a 9V battery and see if the last digit clicks pretty fast, I assume Hobbs meter? Most will accept something like 6 to 36V

Re: Unusual time format on eng hour meter
Yes, its 1,234.56 hours in European format. They use commas instead of periods in the number format.

Re: Unusual time format on eng hour meter
six minutes is 0.1 hour, 0.01 hour is 6 seconds, 0.56 hours would then be 5X6=30 minutes plus 6X6=36 seconds, a pretty precise hour meter!

Re: Unusual time format on eng hour meter
It is an imperial, pre CE meter. You must read the digits backwards, then divide by 12. The result is in latitudinal minutes and must be multiplied by the cosine of your EP to get a metric result expressed in hours, minutes and seconds.

No, 0.01hr is 36sec. So .56hr is 33.6 min.

Re: Unusual time format on eng hour meter
Since time is relative, what altitude and what speed are we talking about? Still, the most accurate hour meter I've ever heard of for a boat.

nothing unusual about that...
that is display of full hours, 1/10 1/100 h.
1234,56
1234h
.56X60 = 33.6min
1234h 33min
