Universal to Kubota Correlation

I have a universal diesel in our sailboat - I am looking for a water pump for it and the universal parts are crazy, $535 for a Universal water pump in Canada.

I was told that the universal is basically a Kubota tractor engine and that the parts are the same. My engine is a Universal model M-30, 5424, serial number 311632, I've even found a parts catalogue.

200143 - Universal M-30 and 5424 Universal Parts Catalog and Reference

My question is: does anyone have a definitive cross reference to a Kubota engine model number that I can use to order Kubota parts, such as the water pump or starter?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I was quoted $860 for a starter and found a new one on ebay for $185 (aftermarket).

Thanks, looking forward to my first posting results. Have a great day!

Is your motor fresh OR raw water cooled. If it's raw water you'll have to bite the bullet.

Otherwise, have you tried going to a Kabota dealer with pump in hand and engine numbers? That would be the easiest.

BTW Welcome aboard!

Oh yeah! where do you float a 38' in Calgary?

The 5424 was based on a Kubota D-1101. If you need the circulating pump for the closed cooling system you can try kubota. If you need a water pump">raw water pump. There are alternatives.

Thanks, that is fantastic, I assume it is the circulating pump as it is the dropping coolant reservoir that was the first flag to the leak.

So would I look for a water pump for a Kubota D-1101?

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the info, it is so hard to get this information from our prairie Kubota guys who know nothing of marine engines.

Do you know who I can contact to get a price on one?

We keep our boat in Sidney BC, about 10 miles from San Juan Island, 3 miles from the Victoria International Airport.

So it is the coolant circulation pump that is leaking, so if I contact a Kubota dealer, will they know what an 1101 is?

Brad,
i don't know anyone out that way.
i'd just find a tractor place and tell them you have a D-1101 and need a water pump. It's truly that simple.
