Universal Diesel - Starves After About an Hour

Greetings

My dock neighbor has a stumper of a problem, his Universal diesel runs fine for about an hour then shuts down as if it's starved for fuel. If he lets it cool down it will fire back up without bleeding.

Any one have any ideas what could be causing this? He's already replaced the fuel lines and checked the vent line.

TIA

Gary

Is there a strainer/screen on the end of his fuel pickup tube? If there is take it off.

Re: Universal diesel - starves after about an hour

My first thought as I was reading this was "blocked vent", but he checked that. That being the case I'm with DeepFrz. Pull the pickup tube and look for a blocked screen. If there isn't a screen on the bottom of the tube, unscrew the tube from the fitting and look through it. I had a similar problem drawing fuel from my starboard tank. I checked and replaced everything! I even pulled the pickup tube to check the screen. No screen. I lived with the problem about a year before I discovered that I could unscrew the tube from the fitting. I thought it was soldered in. The $?X@ screen was in the top of the tube! I don't know why they put those THINGS in anyway. I want the junk to go to my filter where I can get rid of it.

I believe the universal has an electric fuel pump...yes? Has he checked/changed the filter in that? It's fairly course, but it can get blocked. It's a easy enough thing to check before starting on the fuel tank.
