Universal 5411 engine controls HELP!

I have a Universal Atomic 5411 (1981). It has the duel controls. One for transmission one for throttle and kill. I need to replace them. The PO left the boat in bad condition. However I don't really have $1k to blow on a new set of replacement controls from Catalinadirect. The issue I am having is that the 5411 does not have a kill switch or cable. You have to go past idol in order to kill the engine. Does anyone have a solution to either the replacement controls or a way to kill the engine remotely. The old controls are completely rusted out. Need help asap.

On my old C36 the kill control is a separate cable with a T handle that comes out near the engine instrument panel. Not sure if that was OEM or not. The T handle cable control shuts off the fuel supply. The boat has a Universal 5421

Not sure what you mean about $1K for controls from CD. Could you be more specific? Replacing the control CABLES shouldn't cost more than a couple of hundred at the most.

The throttle control unit. Two handles that control the cables. It is $800+ at CD.

Most any dual function, single lever controls can be adapted to work. (For that matter most any dual, single function lever controls, or single lever single function [but you need two of them] will too.)

This one (CH2100P) is specifically for a sailboat for less that 200.00.

Teleflex Side Mount Control Lever

A T-handle kill cable can probably be had for less than 20.00, for a good 'marine grade' Teleflex or similar expect to pay 75-100.00.

I wish that I could use that lever and that cable. However with the Hearst transmission that I have it takes a lot of effort to shifted from forward to reverse. I've been told by Teleflex and Morris that that single lever will not work.

Re: Universal 5411 engine controls HELP!

You must have the old style mechanical shift then.

Just remembered that I have a old style shifter, for full mechanical gearboxes, that came off my Atomic 4 when I swapped to diesel. It's not the prettiest thing, but there is no slop in the mechanism and all the necessary parts are there. You'd need to source out the mounting bolts (or if you tell me the mounting panel thickness I can) and a throttle lever, (though the throttle is also knurled to set by hand, or one can be made from a 3/8" x 6" stainless bolt). This is a Morse control, solid bronze with (worn) chrome plating.

Some pictures of it, in case you're interested, I'll take a hundred for it. I'm only a couple hundred miles from you...
