Trolling Valves for ZF Transmission

I recently purchased a Mainship 30 so the wife and I could travel from Vancouver to Alaska and I want to do some salmon fishing at the same time but it appears that no there are no ZF Trolling valves to be found anywhere in North America. If anyone knows where I could find a new or used valve I would sure appreciate it.
Regards,
Paul

Thanks Gord, but is this your idea of help? I wasn't looking for sarcasm.

Not sarcasm for sure.. Welcome from my part too. Had to google to find out WTF you were asking for..not seen such thing in action. Me thinks a kitchen rudder or CPP would be much better.

It depends on the make of the transmission and where you are located... there are definitely trolling valves available. I would ask a reputable engine shop to give you a quote as it might mean removing your transmission to install.

GordMay is too much the gentleman to respond to your comment, but I'm not!!
He is the genuinely esteemed senior of this forum, who greets and welcomes everyone, and has probably forgotten more about boats, than most of us know.
You, on the other hand, should know enough about your transmission maker to be able to provide some details before walking in the door with such a vague request.
Oh!!, BTW , welcome.

Firstly not all ZF gearboxes can handle trolling valves, it varies

I would suggest contacting a ZF box distributor in say the UK as its a German box. You will need the exact part numbers of the box.

By the way welcome aboard. , and ps Gord is a computer it's cant be sarcastic !!

Re: Trolling Valves for ZF Transmission

I apologies to Gord May, I am sorry Gord, the only thing I saw to be a reply from you was; "If you didn't have the time or money to do it right in the first place, when will you get the time/$ to fix it?" I thought that statement was your reply to me. Anyway, i appreciate you welcoming me and I also appreciate that you are so well defended - I am sure it is earned. I actually thought that I had just run into another online nut-case but it turned out to be me.
In any event, I am sure that no one is interested in my problem at this juncture but I have called all over the US looking for a part that should be available - Trolling Valve ZF Marine 3312199009
Also thanks to Teddy for some good ideas but the CPPs are out of my price range and I can't find anyone who installs the kitchen Rudders.

Are you looking for someone that's stocks it, I'd say thats a very difficult call. These are usually ordered with the box. I suspect you'll have to place a order and wait while they get one from the factory

Try emailing ZF directly

Call your local ZF transmission distributor.

Gordon is the nicest guy and would not hurt anyone.

Re: Trolling Valves for ZF Transmission

What's the gear box model number? I don't know that it matters, but many of the ZF boxes are made in Italy, not Germany.

Have you gotten a price on the valve and do you know what other control parts, cable harnesses, etc are needed for a complete installation? It would be a shame to wait forever for one part only to find you need more. And I ask about the price because the one optional accessory part that I've ordered from ZF was a PTO adapter which is nothing more than a simple casting with finish machining, and it cost $600.

You might check on boatdiesel.com There are a lot of mechanics who attend over there and someone might have one they can scavenge off another box.

Good luck, and I unfortunately share the sentiment that with ZF, waiting is the name of the game.
