Torqeedo Dingy Motor, Short or Long Shaft?

I have a line on a used long shaft torqueedo 1003 (3 Hp Equivalent) outboard engine.

I'm currently still boat shopping, but thought I might snap this up for whatever dingy I might end up with.

Would a 3 HP long shaft be a dumb idea for a dingy? I'd hate to spend some bucks on it only to realize it was a newbie mistake and that I really needed a short shaft to avoid grounding it on dingy trips to beach.

Experienced input anyone?

Yes it is very long for a dinghy. I have a short shaft and it is almost too long. I love the motor though.
