Suppliers for obsolete parts? (Volvo MD17)

Any of you old salts know of a good source of supply for parts for older engines? My MD17 is only 30 years old, but getting parts for it is becoming a problem. At the moment it is just lip seals for the water pump">raw water pump, but it seems there is always something! Johnson just says that pump is obsolete - not very helpful! Surely one of the millions of seals for newer pumps will fit the shaft of my old one? Johnson doesn't seem to know or care.
Anybody with a warehouse full of old parts they want to sell?

I guess nobody wants to admit to being an old salt!
I need to hear from someone who has a Volvo MD17, had difficulty getting replacement parts, and has found a good supplier.

Always a difficult situation.
The professionals who change out motors normally don't keep the junk.
Those, for whom the engines are being changed, don't want to know.
This is akin to "The Full Inventory List of Missing Equipment"

Thread detour: A Colvin Gazelle eh , would you have any knowledge of a sistership named ANDRE DORIA? ( Internet spellcheckers , I did spell it correctly.)

Take your old seals to a bearing place. they will find you some thing that fits.

pirate Re: Suppliers for obsolete parts? (Volvo MD17)

I have the Volvo Penta MD17C in my 1976 Morgan 46'. It moved my boat fine for the first two years of my ownership(6.7 kts @ 2200 rpm) until it suddenly siezed a cylinder when an injector quit working. I'm DONE chasing my tail to find parts and am in the process of building a custom 3.5:1 gear to retro fit a Toyota 22R inline four gas motor, Parts cost a fraction of the price and I can get them anywhere in the world, not to mention the HP boost from 36 hp WOT to 97 hp WOT! I am going to install a brand new motor for under $3500 total out of pocket!

If anyone needs Md17C parts, I have them, PM me to let me know what you need.
