I have a pair of Steyr MO236 K42 212hp diesels in my power cat, I have had no real issues with them, they are light, responsive and relatively trouble free, support from the Australian importer has been excellent, supply of spares is a bit slow, one item taking 2 weeks to get from Brisbane to Sydney, a friend with a Yanmar ordering at the same time had his parts the next day. Steyr's are very high reving max 4200!( My previous boat had a Gardner max revs 1200.) They are sort of a hybrid control engine, with a mechanical rack controlled by electronics; perhaps the most unusual thing is the head and block are one casting; I have not had to do any major work, but can imagine valve/ ring replacement may be challenging.
