Starting Yanmar 2gm20f

I recently purchased a boat that has a Yanmar 2gm20f. The boat has been out of the water for a few years, and I don't believe the engine has been run at all during that time. I was hoping I could get some advice on how to go about making sure the engine is in working order while it is out of the water, so that it is ready to go when I drop it in in may. Thanks a Bunch!

Check the oil, coolant, fuel filter. Fuel should be Pop the compression releases and turn the engine over by hand either with a wrench and socket or hand rotating the flywheel. That will tell you if the engine is seized. If that works, cycle the starter for 15 seconds or so 3-4 times with about the same time between iterations with the compression releases still activated. That will get the oil circulating to lubricate the engine parts. After that, drop the compression releases and engine should start up. You won't hurt anything running the engine for several minutes without coolant. If you want to run it longer, figure out some way to get water to the raw water side of the cooling system. When you are satisfied the engine is working fine, shut it down and change the raw water impeller, fuel and oil filters and the engine oil. It will probably be easier to pull the raw water pump to change the impeller rather than doing it in place.
