Source of a new diesel in Mexico?

I did search for this topic but couldn't find an answer. We had a catastrophic engine failure en route to El Salvador and had to redirect to Puerto Chiapas/Madero after crossing the Tehuanipec. Our recently rebuilt (five years ago) Perkins threw a rod through the engine block. Not repairable. No one seems to know of a source for a new engine. Perkins, Yanmar, Beta, Volvo, etc. We would prefer either a cheap 4108, or a new Yanmar, or Beta about 25-45hp. To go back to the 4108, it would have to be a good deal, but if we are going to modify the engine bed I want to install new. Anyone know where to source either a Perkins or newer marine diesel? Thaanks,

Elan

Elan

Total Yacht Works in Mazatlan are the Yanmar guys for Mexico. They replaced several engine during our stay in Mexico and I had them service our Yanmar.

Would highly recommend them!

Oh no? I tried to get one across the border, but even with the TIP, it didn't seem likely to escape duty. Ours was not rebuildable. It threw a rod and left a softball size hole in the block. I didn't want to weld a block so badly damaged, and we wanted to get on the move as quickly as possible.

So far they seem pretty helpful. I hate to hear bad things about people I've been working with, but so far Bob has been professional and on top of things. I'll hope for the best. The engine sounds good in the video.

We are planning to summer in Panama. Right now we are 16m from Guatemala. Two days and we should be far clear of the worst weather. A stop in El Salvador, and another in Costa Rica for fuel, and then through the canal and on our way to the San Blas Islands for the hurricane season.
