Small Capactity Fuel Tanks

When I had my sailboat I only ran the engine leaving and
returning to the harbor. As a consequence, the fuel tank
never got close to empty.
I envisioned a solution but didn't develop the idea
until we started working over the engine and mounts on
my Albin 27FC, Polaris.

I wanted to be able to get diesel at the roadside
service station and only wanted a realitively small
amount at a time. (Polaris would sit for almost a
year before very much activity).

Take a look at the Moeller portable fuel tanks

The fuel pickup connection and the fuel gage display screw
into the tank body interchangablely . Swap the fuel pickup
from one tank with the fuel gauge from another and you have
a portable fuel tank equiped with connectors for
pickup and return lines.

We have plumbed the engine feed and return lines
(as well as the original tank) with quick disconnect
fuel fittings so I can run from the portable tank
when I want to.

I'll probably continue to use it till I do more than day-trips.

I use an "outboard" fuel tank for Diesel on my boat. I just deck load additional fuel when I need it. Works for me

Works for me too. Fuel is fresher and the tank is less likely to gunk up (and easier to clean anyway). Principle also applies to water tanks; multiple small containers rather than one big one mean fresher water and cleaner containers. Recommended.
