Shaft Coupling Recommendations

Our current coupling is a large rust ball so it will be replaced when the engine is put back into the boat - does anyone have a recommendation on good brands? This will be for a Yanmar 3GM22 or 3YM30 (TBD).

thanks!

Re: Shaft Coupling Recommendations

Both Walters Machine in N.J. and Buck Algonquin make well regarded shaft couplings.

If you are looking for a flexible coupling you could try Federal, Vetus, Centa, and there are others out there as well.

Re: Shaft Coupling Recommendations

Doug,

Thanks.. Unfortunate I don't think I was clear - this is not connecting to a prop shaft, but to an outdrive.

Any ideas on who sells these?

Here is what we have now:

Re: Shaft Coupling Recommendations

Geoff,
This is the type of coupling found in various industrial applications, motor drives, etc.

Try "Dodge couplings", Centa couplings, Grainger, etc. You might have to do some adapting of end flanges to get something to work.

Re: Shaft Coupling Recommendations

I am very happy with the flexible couplings made by R&D marine. That couplings are good at dumping vibrations, but also stiff enough iif you have a shaft with a single point of support (not rigid)

either sillette P Brackets & Acessories Index

or r and d couplings sell them about £78 with post in the uk for the one you need, sillette and r and d are the only suppliers of this type and size of coupling in the world as far as I know for the sonic drive leg

Re: Shaft Coupling Recommendations

atoll,

Thanks - I called Sillette and will order from them (according to sillette they are the only ones who make one that fits the outdrive).
