Service heat exchanger

What is the appropriate way to service a heat exchanger? Mine seems to have a little leak at the gasket on the removable end cap, and if I am going to take it off, and change gaskets, what would constitute a full servicing?

Re: Service heat exchanger

I took mine to a radiator repair shop and they boiled it to clean out all of the passages, replaced the gaskets, etc for a very reasonable price.

Re: Service heat exchanger

If the leak just needs a gasket replacement, and there is no corrosion damage you might want to "rod it out" yourself. You simply need to get a fiberglass or brass rod that fits into the heat exchanger tubes and slide it through each tube to clear any buildup that impairs flow. Flush it all out with water, and replace the gasket.
