Salt Water Leak Into My Engine Room???

Greetings. My catamaran has accumulated water into the little compartment at the extreme aft of my engine room. It accumulates below the steering quadrant at the base of the upright steering shaft. It is salty. Any ideas where this could come from?

Mike--

Check the packing gland at the shaft exit from the shaft gallery/tube. At the least it may need be tightened a bit.

Thank you for the reply. I omitted to mention that my motors are Volvo penta 55hp sail drives. I will check if the salt water ingress is around the sail drive.

Could be the steering rudder stock gland or tube.

Could be coming in from above on the transoms, bad joins or similar. This what we had on our cat.

Also check the exhaust skin fitting and the attached water lock.

Possible slight leak in the raw water cooling system (if you have that)?


Systems (or connected fittings): thru-hull, sea strainer, raw water pump, heat exchanger, exhaust...
