Check your fluids , clean the electrical connections on the starter , charge the starting battery , and fire it up.

1) Place new oil and oil filters
2) Renew all fuel filters
3) Replace diesel if sitting more than 9 months-1 year
4) Remove glow plugs/or injectors
5) Squirt clean oil in each opening (not to much just a few squirts)
6) Turn engine over with glow plugs out or injectors (hold stop lever in stop position if removed glow plugs-but unlikely to start any way!)
7) Check for oil pressure while turning over
8) Replace removed items
9) Bleed fuel system if not done when replaced filters
10) Clean replace air filter
11) Check belt tension or replace belts if required
12) Replace water pump">raw water pump impeller and lube (silicon Grease)
13) KEEP RAW WATER INLET CLOSED WHILE TURNING OVER ENGINE AND DO NOT OPEN UNTIL FIRING
14) Perhaps take the time to check the Exhaust riser prior to starting attempt
15) Check for water flow at exhaust out let when running and mind temperature
16) I would strongly recommend flushing the old coolant and replace with new ASAP , Sitting for one year by now is quite possibly turned acidic.
17) Change out thermo stat when changing coolant

Some will no doubt say this is not necessary- but if you dont want to chasing your tail all season with issues follow these suggestions, as a Marine certified chief Engineer this is the minimum I follow with our company engines!! and we dont have follow on issues.
