Repowering from Nissan SD22

Thinking of repowering our Discovery 40 Pilot House (displacement abt 26,000 lbs) from a 1974 Chrysler Nissan SD22 40 hp. Have considered rebuild, but believe money better spent in new. Am considering possibly a Beta 43 or 50, or Izuzu 52. Had bad experience with a 3 cylinder Yanmar requiring two transmission rebuilds in a previous boat (very expensive parts). With either of the Beta or the Izuzu we COULD use our existing Borg Warner Velvet drive, which was rebuild 5 years ago, and it would make engine allignment easier.

Am interested if anyone has any experience with these engines.

Thanks.

Re: Repowering from Nissan SD22

I have not had personal experience with the Isuzu engine you are writing about, but I have a 6 cyl. Isuzu main, and a 4 cyl. Isuzu gen set, and I love them both, I think they are good reliable, economical engines that don't spit oil. I have no experience with the Beta or Yanmar.
