I replaced both the throttle and shift
cables on my
volvo penta single lever
engine control this year. As far as I can
recall, it was fairly simple--I had to take the shifter top cover off, but didn't have to remove the shifter from the base. Once I got the cotter pins off and the brass pins out of their holes (I think you had to move the shifter full travel to get to one of them), I bent the
cables around to release them from their keepers. Then loosen the locknut and unscrew the cable end fitting from the cable. Be sure you mark which holes the cables come out of!
