Relocate hour meter

I have a Yanmar 3GM30 engine. The hour meter is located in a lower locker behind the main cabin ladder - I have to kneel down and remove a bunch of stuff in order to see it.

I would like to relocate the meter to the nav desk - or at least someplace easier to get to. Is there a limit to how long the cables for the meter can be?

What a dumb location.... definitely move it to where you can read it. Mine is at the chart table.

Re: Relocate hour meter

Mine is at the Nav desk, unlikely to get wet there or sun faded.
It's is just really a 12V powered clock is all, so as long as you give it 12VDC, it runs and it pulls only a tiny amount of power, so no realistic cable length limits

Re: Relocate hour meter

Hello,

We moved our hour meter from the engine bay a few months ago. I used about 20 feet of 16 gauge wire.

To confirm that the wire would not overheat, I tested our meter for amp draw. The hour meter barely registered on my digital multi-meter. I probably could have used a smaller wire. Unless you are using a very fancy hour meter, you should have no issues.
