Rebuildiing MD 21/Indenor-Peugeot motor

Greetings,

Does anyone know where I can get a complete rebuild kit for a Peugeot Indenor XPD 4-90 diesel engine. If not can you recommend a reasonable engine to replace it that will hook up to a Borg-Warner Velvet Drive with similar motor mounts and HP?
NOT looking for a $10,000 dollar solution.

Thank you,

I don't know the engine, but people might be more helpful if you can specify the boat it's going into.

Best of luck

Thank you for your reply, but what difference does that make? Anyone who knows the motor regardless of boat knows the motor. It was used for lots of boats and as the core for several marine engines. It is a Volvo marinized Peugeot motor. The core motor is a Peugeot/Indenor XPD 4-90. Ford Lehman also used it as the core for a 90 hp motor. They are still manufactured in India by Mahindra. Information is hard to find, but there are mechanics who know. That's who I am looking for. Internet is pretty useless for research, so I am asking PEOPLE.

If you check with companies that rebuild motors, they usually have access to engine kits not marketed to the public. Every big city has at least one.

My response was directed at this part of your post: “can you recommend a reasonable engine to replace it that will hook up to a Borg-Warner Velvet Drive with similar motor mounts and HP?”

Knowing the boat would undoubtedly help answer this question, but hey, you do you.

I'd ask around in some Car Forums using the same engines. Here is a couple of possibilities:

Peugeot 504D, Peugeot J7, Peugeot J9, Bedford Blitz, Ford Granada 2,1D, Mahindra CJ340, Wolga M21/M22, Wolga M24, Hotchkiss-Jeeps CJ3B, M38A1,

(taken from a german site: Indenor XDP4.90 Daten)

I had a Long tractor with a 32HP Peugeot engine. Might be another place to question for parts?

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious but have you tried contacting Mahindra in India? They will be waaaaaaaay cheaper than volvo & they speak English. Will be a difficult exercise but they mite put you in touch with a retailer that can send the parts out. I wouldnt send money there unless thru paypal or similar tho.
I went thru a similar exercise trying to get cheaper Yanmar parts. Good luck

Re: Rebuildiing MD 21/Indenor-Peugeot motor

Thank you all for your replies. Some good suggestions I had not tried yet.
I am in Mazatlan, Mexico and there is no obvious sources here, although I continue to look both on line and locally. Most internet sites turn out to have nothing. A few of those who sound possible have not yet replied to my inquiry. Found Mahindra dealer/rep in U.S. but have not had a chance to call yet.

Re: Rebuildiing MD 21/Indenor-Peugeot motor

Found a German Shop which sells parts and whole engines. Sadly no webshop but inquire via email might help.

Indenor Retro ? Kontakt

and another shop with webshop. might be worth the shipping, prices seem decent compared to marine shops...

Re: Rebuildiing MD 21/Indenor-Peugeot motor

Thanks Andi,

The catalogues are the most complete I have yet seen and will be useful. Still checking options in the US and looking locally in Mazatlan as well as checking Mahindra.

Re: Rebuildiing MD 21/Indenor-Peugeot motor

I have now received quotes from several companies offering parts for this motor. Unfortunately most internet sites who advertise parts either do not respond at all or reply saying they don't have the parts.

Out of 20+ sites I looked at out of over 100 that claim to have parts, most were eliminated just by looking at what they actually did carry, and of the others who I requested quotes from only three responded and only two had all the parts.

Indenor Retro and Drinkward Marine, both in Denmark were the only ones who replied with a quote on all I asked for. Precision in Australia offered most but can't provide any gaskets.

Just because people advertise does not mean they can provide.
