Raw Water Pump Weep Hole Leak

I have a 2002 Westerbeke 63D and changed the impeller on the water pump">raw water pump this weekend. No big deal, all went smooth until I started the engine to check for leaks - and found that a steady stream of water came out of the lower weep hole.

Any ideas what may have caused this evidently sudden leak in the real seal of the pump and fixes? There is a rebuild kit available however I am unsure what is included and if this is something I would be able to do.
