Rainwater in Perkins

just got a project boat and checked perkins , pulled oilstick clean water shot out put stick back, boat was full of water at one point ,bonus is it was rainwater instead of salt , boat has been on hard for 7 years, do i need to use motor for core and replace or rebiuld ? suggestions thanx

If you are lucky and have connections upstairs, the rainwater has only been there for 2 days and you are good to go.

More likely severeal years and you will have internal corrosion.

Seen the same on a project boat I had here in Fort Lauderdale: no drains, no bilgepumps, hull filled up with water, leaves from trees above fell in and rotted. slowly she turned into a garden.
Not one thing could be used again including the engine and tranny.
(The boat had been sitting for 10 years)

I think I would as a gambler drain all the oil/ water from the engine two times and then fire her up. What the worst that could happen? There may be some rust and corrosion but if the pistons are not seized she may have some life left in her.
