I've had a 574 International tractor get so much water
that it shut down from a high RPM
, under load, thankfully without damage, so yes you can get lucky.
I've also had Diesel
running out of fuel
sound like they were coming apart, excessive smoke out the pipe, surging, knocking like the Devil etc.
It's the excessive smoke and smell from the exhaust
that has me thinking fuel
problem, not many internal engine
problems will do that.
How much fuel was in the tanks
? Is it possible that you un-ported the fuel pick up being heeled over and she got a slug of air?
