Question About Fuel Filter Leak

The top screw on my secondary filter for my Yanmar 3GM30F has a slow weeping fuel leak. There appears to be a copper gasket underneath it. Should I simply try to tighten it down further, or will I cause a problem doing that? Is there something else I should do instead?

Replace the crush washer (copper gasket) before you tighten the nut. You can get them from Yanmar, make sure you get the right size.

In a pinch, buy a nylon washer from the local hardware, replace with every filter change.

These are subject to over tightening...they strip out quicker than..............

I installed a new crush washer, and the leak seems to have stopped (at least for now). I now have a couple extras, too. Thanks to all!

Solid copper washers also respond to annealing.Heat it up to just under red heat, and quench it. This will soften to washer and allow it to conform to the surfaces you are trying to seal against. Regards, Richard.
