Proper Oil Pressure Reading for a 28hp Volvo Penta

I just bought a boat with a 28 hp Volvo Penta. The engine runs smoothly and quietly and seems to be in great shape. I was wondering if anyone knows what the oil pressure gauge should read for this type of engine. Thanks very much. This is an amazing forum for quick help.

G'day John,
At 28hp it is possibly a a 2003--2030 if serviced properly and at regular intervals it will give good service -- volvos are not as forgiving as some brands when it comes to serviceing slackness. Oil pressure at full noise will be at about 45--55 psi & 10-20psi @ idle hot.

Doug,

When I last ran the engine, I had it at about 1200-1500 rpm for an hour and the oil pressure was around 12 psi. Is this too low?

Thanks very much for your input.

G;day Jon,
Yes, 12psi is starting to get a bit low for 1500 rpm, you should get a dramatic increase from 2000 rpm onward unit, may need a oil & filter change, beg, steal or borrow a manual gauge to confirm your reading also confirm correct grade & viscosity for your operating area.
