Perkins spin-on fuel filter adapter - Foley

Looking for feedback on installing spin-on fuel filter adapter to replace Perkins cartridge fuel filter. Looks like Foley makes one - reviews of Foley are pretty bad. Engine is Perkins 4.236 but same for 4.108, 4.154, and 6.354.

For this who have a spin on adapter - thoughts? Any recent feedback on Foley? Any other source? I couldn't find anything from TAD, my preferred Perkins source.

For reference, YouTube showing the Foley adapter.

Also curious. I remember they are expensive for what you get which is why I’ve avoided purchasing one but would also love to hear any feedback. I can’t imagine foley could botch something this simple in a one off order...

The internet is a crazy place. I was literally googling that today. I'm not a fan of that design, but less of a fan of the company. But I won't get into that. I did find something else.

I found a similar one else where, that included the plugs, filter, etc. but forgot to save the link.Click image for larger version

Someone converted mine before I bought it, not sure what brand.

Obviously it's much easier to change than the cartridge type. Just be sure you measure for sufficient clearance, not only for the length of the filter, but an extra inch or two so you can spin it all the way off.

I bought one from Foley not too long ago but it didn't fit my engine configuration for my 4.108. I sent it back but lost a few bucks on shipping and Foley charged some restocking fees, etc.

Re: Perkins spin-on fuel filter adapter - Foley

I ordered one 2 years ago and have no issues with the filter setup or Foley. It was a fairly easy installation. Found a local source for the spin on filters I am on the west coast of Canada and encountered no problem getting it shipped to me.

There's a number of universal spin on filter housings on eBay.

The one with the thumb pump might make bleeding easier. Both under $25. free shipping.

Thanks - with today's exchange rate, post is about $30 USD, but no VAT. All-in, GBP 60/USD $80 which is considerably less expensive than the Foley adapter, and less of a kluge and gives more clearance for a larger filter (or just more room). I opted against the eBay universal with finger-pump. The lift pump has a thumb lever, and I have an inline electric pump so didn't want an extra part/diaphragm to fail.

Thanks to all who responded. This was really helpful

Try Complete Yacht Service in Fort Lauderdale, they are Perkins, and Yanmar dealers, there the the guys that invented it about 40 years ago, and they stock them.

Re: Perkins spin-on fuel filter adapter - Foley

If memory serves me the one I installed was made by a guy at a shop in Minnesota (sold by him too). Must be 20 years ago that I purchased it. It attached to the old filter assembly head and the new filter spins on without fuel spill which was the reason for installing it. It is hard to see with my engine set up and I remove and install by feel. Works really well. Perkins 4.236. Was about $20 back then. If you don't have any luck finding the right supplier send me a note and I will see if I have the invoice for mine with the supplier name on it.

Re: Perkins spin-on fuel filter adapter - Foley

With all this Perkins know-how here... how about a remote oil filter adapter for a 4.236. Nothing I have seen on the market is a really good fit.... any suggestions?

Rowglide:

This the one I installed for my Yanmar 3ym30. Comes with several threaded fittings, Need to test each one to ensure the oil filter will thread on completely & seal.

Re: Perkins spin-on fuel filter adapter - Foley

Thanks
I tried that one and 2 others. They don’t fit securely at the engine filter bids because of the diameter of the o-ring and also the 3/4-16 adapter is far too short. But I’m not quitting...
